Scott City Boys Cruise Past Colby, Girls Lose by 20
Colby, KS (westernkansasnews.com) The Scott City Boys Basketball team (16-3 overall, 7-2 conference) rebounded from Tuesday’s loss to Holcomb with a 61-26 win in Colby spoiling the Eagles Senior night. Brett Meyer scored 15 of his 21 points in the first half leading nine different Beavers on the scoreboard. Colby’s only offense came from guard Cameron Brown scoring 20 of his team’s 26 points. After the game, head coach Glen O’Neil was happy everyone contributed.
The Scott City girls could not sustain their early momentum and lost 50-30 falling short of winning their first conference game. Bailey Nickel poured in 18 points in the loss. Scott City jumped out to an early 6-0 lead and had it tied at 10-10 midway through the second quarter only to allow a 10-2 run through the rest of the half as Colby started to take control. Scott City Head Coach Shelby Crawford believes his team gave their best effort.
Haileigh Shull led the Eagles with 15 points. The Beavers end the regular season Tuesday with a home game against Goodland. Scott City still has an outside shot to win a share of the GWAC regular season title if they beat Goodland and Holcomb loses at home to Hugoton.
