Scott City baseball sweeps Colby, softball splits with Eagles

Scott City, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–Tuesday was the midway point of the season for both the Scott City baseball and softball teams. After Tuesday, both teams saw their records go to 9-1 at the midway point. Baseball would pick up a pair of 10-run wins, taking 16-6 and 11-1 victories. Softball dropped their first game to Colby 6-3, but responded with a 23-13 win in the finale.

For baseball, it was run-rule win for the Beavers 16-6 in the first game. The second game saw Scott City score in every inning. They led 1-0 after the first inning, 3-0 after the second, and after Colby pulled to within 3-1 in the third inning, the Beavers scored two more runs in the third, and three in the fourth and fifth innings to win on a run-rule 11-1. Easton Lorg threw 75 pitches in five innings to pick up the win, giving up a run on three hits with 10 strikeouts. Lorg would also bring home a run, while Jeffery Nix, Harrison King, and Brady Welker each had a hit and drove in a run. Scott City is 9-1 and are scheduled to play at Syracuse on Friday.

As for softball, the Lady Beavers would have their first setback on the season in a 6-3 loss. They would have two runs wiped off the board, due to appeals by Colby in which the Lady Eagles won. Colby would jump out early to a 3-0 lead after the first inning, and add two in the second and one in the third. Scott City scored a run in the second, third and fifth innings. Cheyenne Cramer took the loss giving up six runs on nine hits and struck out four. She also had two hits and drove in a run. PJ Suppes and Tori Ford also had two hits and an RBI in the game. In the second game, the Lady Beavers raced out to an 11-2 lead after an inning and a half, before Colby raced back to tie the game up at 11 in the third inning. Scott City would put up six runs in the fourth and fifth innings, while the Lady Eagles scored two runs in the fifth innings, and the Lady Beavers would win via run-rule. Hannah Tucker had four hits and drove in seven runs, including a home run, while Cheyenne Cramer had four hits, inlcuding a solo home run. Malorie Cupp had a three-run home run for Scott City as well. Cramer would get the win in relief, giving up four runs on five hits. Scott City is 9-1 and will play at Stanton County on Friday.
