Goodland, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–Scott City knew it would take quite a game for them to upset Holcomb. Unfortunately for them on Monday, it was not in the cards. The Longhorns scored in every inning they came to bat, en route to a 12-2 win over the Beavers in the Class 4A, Division II Semi-Final round.

Holcomb scored four runs in the first inning, chasing Scott City starter Todd Morris out of the game, after one out in the bottom of the first. The Longhorns scored four runs on five hits in that inning. They would add one more in the second, two in the third and three in the fourth to take a 10-0 lead. The Beavers only reached base three times in the first four innings, either on an error or a walk. In the fifth inning, the bats would finally wake up for Scott City. They scored two runs on four hits to force another half inning, and make it 10-2 Longhorns. Holcomb would get two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to end it via run rule to advance to the regional final 12-2.

Chance Rodriguez picked up the win, going all five innings, allowing two runs on four hits with eight strikeouts and allowed one walk. He also helped out his cause on the mound by going 2-3, driving in three runs. Alex Ortega also had two hits and drove in two runs and Conner VanCleave had two hits and three runs scored. Todd Morris took the loss for Scott City, lasting just a 1/3 of an inning, giving up four runs on four hits. Gustavo Gonzalez relieved him and went the final four innings, giving up eight runs on nine hits with a strikeout. Morris and Seth Cardenas each drove in a run for the Beavers.

Holcomb improved to 15-2 on the year, while Scott City ended their season at 7-12.
