Lakin, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–The first two meetings saw the Goodland Cowboys win by a combined three runs over Scott City. Both teams would be scoreless through two and a half innings. The bottom of the third would be troublesome for Scott City. Two walks and a hit batter would load the bases with one out. Goodland took the 1-0 lead on an RBI sacrifice fly by Evan Peter that scored Gabe Biermann from third that made it 1-0 Cowboys. In the fourth inning, Scott City would tie the game up. With two outs, single back up the middle by Kevin Serrano scored Easton Lorg from second to tie the game at one. The Beavers would collect two hits and take advantage of two big time Goodland errors in the fifth inning. With the bases loaded and one out, Scott City took the lead, as the throw home from the Cowboy pitcher sailed wide to give the Beavers a 3-1 lead. In the next at bat, Alex Depperschmidt would drive in a run to push the lead to 4-1. Goodland would take advantage of a Scott City error in the bottom of the fifth, as Biermann scored from second on a fielding error to pull to within 4-2. While the last two innings would remain scoreless, the Cowboys would keep the tying run at the plate in their final seven outs. Beaver pitcher Kevin Herman would stikeout the side in the seventh, and pick up a no hitter.

Kevin Herman went all seven innings on the mound for the Beavers, giving up two runs, one earned. He struck out 11, despite walking four and hit two batters. Kevin Serrano had two of Scott City’s five hits and drove in a run, while Alex Depperschmidt drove in two runs for the Beavers. Hays struck out four in two innings, and gave up two hits. Wence Hendrich went the final 2 1/3 innings with two strikeouts. Evan Peter drove in the lone earned run for the Cowboys.

Scott City won their first postseason game since 2013, and the eight wins eclipsed their win total from last year, and are the most since their 10-win season in 2013. They improved to 8-9 on the year. Goodland ended their season at 10-10.The Beavers will face TMP Marian Wednesday afternoon at 2 pm in Lakin. The Monarchs had a first round bye.
