Football

Scott City, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–One of the longest rivalries in the region is renewed tonight, as the Scott City Beavers hit the road for a second consecutive game, as they will face the Ulysses Tigers in a GWAC battle.

Scott City enters 3-0 on the year after a 55-0 win at Goodland last Friday night in a league and district game. The Beavers scored on their first six possessions of the game, taking a 29-0 lead after the first quarter, and 43-0 at the break. They were able to put up 348 yards on the ground, led by Cale Goodman’s 92 yards and a touchdown, and Hunter Yager added 80 yards and two touchdowns. Scott City finished just shy of 400 yards of offense, and forced three turnovers in the game. The Beaver defense limited Goodland to 87 yards of offense. This year, Scott City has outscored their opponents by an average of 27-1.

Ulysses has bounced back after a season-opening loss to Colby, and is 2-1 after a 29-14 win in a spirited battle at Hugoton last Friday night. The Tigers led 15-14 after three quarters, and tacked on two fourth quarter scores in the win. Edgar Soto accounted for three of their touchdowns in their win over the Eagles. Jett Moyer leads the team in passing with over 100 yards in three games, and Nick Holmes leads a balanced ground attack with 166 yards and two touchdowns. Ulysses is averaging 240 yards per game and 26 points, while giving up 223 yards and 21 points a contest.

It’s the 64th consecutive meeting between the Beavers and Tigers, as Scott City leads the all-time series 40-30-1. Scott City won last year’s game 47-0 at Darner Field, and have won the last five meetings. The last Ulysses win came September 27, 2013, when they won 25-6.
