Scott City, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–As the page has turned to the final month of the season for baseball, Scott City and Ulysses battled in a GWAC doubleheader on Tuesday in Scott City. After the day was over, it would be a twin bill split, as the Tigers took game one in five innings 14-4, while the Beavers took the final game 10-5.

Ulysses 15, Scott City 5, Game 1 (5 inn.)
Things looked good for Scott City in the first game early on, as they grabbed a run in the first and the second inning to take a 2-0 lead heading into the third inning. Aaron Hoopes scored the first run of the game on a two-out Ulysses error in the first inning, and in the second, Jeffrey Nix drove in Kevin Herman on an RBI groundout. From the third inning on, it was all Tigers. They hung five up on the board, taking advantage of walks and errors by the Beavers. They took the lead for good on a Kallen Barber single that drove in two to take a 4-2 lead at that point. Another Ulysses run came on an error to make it 5-2. The score would stay the same until the fifth, when the Tigers scored nine runs, with eight coming with two outs. Ulysses sent 15 to bat in the inning to extend their lead to 14-2. Scott City tried to mount a rally to keep the game going in the bottom of the fifth. They would score twice on a Hoopes and Blaine Culp RBI singles. A line drive to left field would end the game.
