Garden City, KS (westernkansasnews.com) As school begins across Southwest Kansas students and parents should be aware of the growing problem of bullying.  Assistant Superintendent at USD 457 in Garden City Renee Scott classifies bullying into these categories.

With the exploding use of the internet comes the increased use of cyber bullying.

Garden City schools document every bullying incident reported to them and will investigate accordingly.  Scott believes teachers and students building a rapport can help stop bullying as the year progresses.

Of the four types of bullying often incidents can cover several.

Scott reiterates the school districts takes each incident of bullying seriously and acts once its documented something has occurred.  Bullying can lead to other issues like suicide.  Making an attempt to stem the tide the Kansas legislature did something about it in the last session.

Scott is hopeful exposing staff to these strategies in preventing suicide will make a difference.  The latest statistics show suicide is the third leading cause of death for people ages 15-24.
