Hugoton, KS (westernkansasnews.com) The beginning of a new year also will bring a lot of uncertainty for school districts who are reliant on oil and gas property valuation as a huge part of their budget. Now some school districts like Hugoton were able to recoup some of their losses from the state, but Superintendent Adrian Howie expects the budget crunch from dropped valuations to continue plaguing them.

Hugoton had a 7.5 mill levy increase for schools this year, but property owners will not see relief from state money to help the district until next year’s budget is drafted.
