Ruth Eleanor Spangler
Ruth Eleanor Spangler, 90 died Thursday, January 7, 2016 at Garden Valley Retirement Village in Garden City. She was born October 29, 1925 in Lorraine, Kansas the daughter of Edward Theodore & Lula Belle (Splitter) Borgman.
Ruth attended and graduated from Holcomb High School in 1943. She then attended and graduated from Phillips University in 1948 with a Bachelor’s degree in music and business. On June 27, 1948 she married Ronald L. Spangler in Garden City. Ruth worked for Carrier Heating and Air Conditioning, Wrens Studio and Camera Shop, and later for the Garden City Telegram. She was a long time member of Fellowship Baptist Church where she served as a Sunday School Teacher. Ruth enjoyed flower gardening and reading.
Survivors include her children Mark and wife LouAnn Spangler of Wichita, Ks., Cheryl & husband Terry Kells of Garden City, Ks., Monty & wife Norma Spangler of Holcomb, Ks., and Gary & wife Cindy Spangler of Waterloo, Ia., 15 grandchildren; and 32 great grandchildren. Ruth is preceded in death by her parents; a son Terry Spangler; a brother Dale Borgman; and a sister Fern Webb.
Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, January 11, 2016 at the First Southern Baptist Church in Garden City with Pastor Michael McVey officiating. Burial will follow at Valley View Cemetery in Garden City. Friends may call from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Saturday and from Noon to 8:00 p.m. on Sunday all at Garnand Funeral Home in Garden City. The family requests memorials given to ABC Pregnancy Center in care of Garnand Funeral Home.
