Russell Lee Hargett
Russell Lee Hargett, 91, died March 4, 2016 at Halsey Hall in Fort Dodge. He was born on December 13, 1924 in Montezuma, the son of William Floyd and Minnie (Feldman) Hargett.
Russell was a graduate of Montezuma High School. He served his country in the United States Army during World War II in the Pacific Theater. On July 27, 1947, he married Betty McFarland. She preceded him in death on July 7, 1985. He later married Virginia Werner on April 22, 1989. She also preceded him in death on December 4, 1992. Russell was a brick mason for various contractors in the Dodge City area. He enjoyed fishing and building model airplanes.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church, the Copeland American Legion and Howard Gotschall Post #1714 V.F.W. of Dodge City.
Russell is survived by two sisters, Glennis Smith and husband Bob J. of Dodge City and Mildred Padgett of Perryton, Texas; two brothers, William Raymond Hargett of Fort Dodge and Wendell L. Hargett and wife Denise of Dodge City; sister-in-law, Carol Hargett; four grandchildren; Brian J. Hargett of Dodge City, Callinda Hargett of Dodge City, Amanda Beadle of Hutchinson, and Russell Dale Beadle of Olathe; one great grandson, Collin Hargett; son-in-law, Keith Beadle and wife Lavone of Dodge City; and many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. In addition to Betty and Virginia, Russell is preceded in death by his parents, two daughters, Delania Dee Beadle and Pamela Gale Hargett; two brothers, Roy Gene and Neil Hargett; brother-in-law, Oliver Padgett; sister-in-law, Dorothy Hargett; niece, Stacy Ludlum; and nephew, Michael Creevey.
Graveside service will be held at Fairview Cemetery in Montezuma on Wednesday, March 9, 2016 at 2:00 PM with Rev. Jerry Odle presiding and military rites by the Copeland American Legion and KSARNG Military Honors. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Chapel, Montezuma on Tuesday, March 8, 2016 from noon to 8:00 P.M.. Memorials are suggested to Halsey Hall in care of the funeral home.
