Russell Child Development Center Takes Action After State Budget Cuts
Garden City, KS (westernkansasnews.com) The schools are not the only ones feeling the pinch of budget cuts or shrinking revenues. Last week Governor Sam Brownback trim the Child Initiative Fund by 3.3 million dollars causing a 312-thousand dollar cut to the Russell Child Development Center. RCDC Director Deanna Berry says this cut was more than she expected and will have quite an impact.
Trimming programs also means trimming staff.
One job offer had to be rescinded. Berry gives an example on one of the first programs to be eliminated.
It is hard to measure how these cuts will impact kids.
Berry says for now they will make due with what they have been given and will continue to articulate the importance of investing in kids.
