Rout is on; Buffs soccer handcuffs Great Bend
Garden City, Kan (westernkansasnews.com)-Buffs senior Erik Barrigan has more on-field accolades than most high-school soccer players in Western Kansas. Still, when you hear him speak, it’s always about team. He’s the ultimate, unselfish teammate. But it was his antics on the field that once again provided the spark.
Barrigan netted yet another hat trick, while the Buffs defense smothered Great Bend into submission 8-0 Tuesday night at Buffalo Stadium.
“The last two games weren’t good,” Barrigan said. “But we couldn’t keep our heads down. We are taking it game-by-game. We did what we had to do to come out with this win.”
The unsung hero was David Amaro, who scored twice and also delivered a perfect ball setting up Barragan’s goal in the 46th minute.
“This week, we’ve been practicing a lot of shooting drills,” Amaro said. “That’s the first thing that came to mind when I had the opportunity to score.”
Garden City out shot the Panthers 19-4 and improved to 6-2 overall (2-2 in the WAC).
