Rose Hill repeats as Class 4A State Champs; Scott City medals three wrestlers

Salina, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–In the Class 4A State Tournament at the Tony’s Pizza Events Center in Salina, Rose Hill entered the heavy favorites, and left no doubt who would win the team title.

The Rockets would claim their second consecutive state championship winning over runner-up Paola by 73 points. Rose Hill all but clinched the title on the first day, while a four-team race ensued for second. Paola would pull away and hold off Andale for third, while Abilene placed fourth.

Scott City was ninth as a team, and would medal three wrestlers, with Trenton Frank placing fifth at 126, Alex Rodriguez placing third at 138 and Blaze Gossman placing fourth at 165. Ulysses would have one wrestler fall short of medaling, as they placed 33rd as a team, while Hugoton had one wrestler fall short of medaling as well and came in 37th, and Holcomb place 47th overall.

Some of the highlights included Pratt’s Taye Wilson winning his third straight state title at 175 pounds, three freshman, Judd Eck of Andale, Noah Wuthnow of Abilene and Thunder Page of Rose Hill, would win state championships. From the GWAC, Colby’s Ryder Dempewolf would take his second straight state title, winning at 113 pounds.
