Rosa Louise Hannagan

Rosa Louise Hannagan, 86, died Friday, May 19, 2017 at the Bickford Assisted Living in Urbandale, Iowa. She was born February 27, 1931 in Hanston, Kansas the daughter of Robert Francis and Nancy Ann (Lawrence) Holmes.
Louise moved with her family to Walsh, Colorado in 1933. She grew up in Walsh where she attended school and graduated from high school. Louise then attended and graduated from Haviland Bible College in Haviland, Kansas where she earned her teacher’s certificate. Louise then moved to South Dakota where she taught in a one-room schoolhouse. She later moved to Lakin, Kansas where she continued to teach for a short time. In September 1952, she married Charles J. Hannagan in Lakin. They lived in Lakin before moving to Elkhart, Kansas. In 1972, they moved back to Lakin. Louise stayed in Lakin until 2013 when she moved to Urbandale where she has lived since. In addition to teaching, Louise worked most of her life as a homemaker and farm wife. She loved the outdoors, raising horses and cattle with her husband. She enjoyed cooking, baking, canning, and helping people in need. Louise was a founding member of the Wesleyan Church in Lakin, served as a Sunday School Teacher and later as a Sunday School teacher at High Plains Retirement Village. She also served on the Budget Shop Board and was a member of the Women’s Missionary Society. 
Survivors include five children Nancyle Hannagan of Indianola, Iowa, Dorita (Robert) Coen of Plano, Texas, Jonathan (Marilyn) Hannagan of Indianola, Iowa, Lynn (Daryl) Unruh of Cimarron, Kansas, and Mark (DonaKay) Hannagan of Albuquerque, New Mexico; a brother Delmar Holmes of Holly, Co.; eleven grandchildren Jonathan Crowl, Joanna Crowl, James Crowl, Rachel Landers, Jason Hannagan, Joel Hannagan, Rebecca Koehn, Levi Unruh, Kaitlin VanNahmen, Maraka Hannagan, & Makala Hannagan; and thirteen great-grandchildren Katheryn Landers, Victoria Landers, Anneliese Landers, Evangeline Landers, Jack Landers, Barrett Landers, Benjamin Koehn, Elias Koehn, Cooper VanNahmen, Evie VanNahmen, Charlotte Hannagan, Blake Hannagan, & Mia Hannagan. Louise is preceded in death by her husband Charles who died on March 28, 2013. She is also preceded in death by her parents; four brothers Roscoe Holmes, Willis Holmes, Glen Holmes, & Frankie Holmes; and four sisters Geneva Holmes Faurot, Pearl Spoon, Maxine Spoon Cogburn, & Venita Holmes Kesler.
Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, May 24, 2017 at the Wesleyan Church in Lakin with Pastor Chris McFadden officiating. Burial will follow at the Lakin Cemetery. Friends may call from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday at Garnand Funeral Home in Lakin. The family request memorials given to the Budget Shop in care of the Funeral Home.
