Buffalo grapplers make comeback to share team title with Pine Creek

Garden City, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–Going in to the final round, it looked as though Pine Creek was well on their way to their first-ever, undisputed Rocky Welton Championship. Trailing by 19 points, Garden City had the chips fall into the right spot, and the comeback was on. For the second straight season, the Buffaloes can call themselves Rocky Welton Tournament Champions, as they tied with Pine Creek for the first co-champions of one of the toughest tournaments in the region since 1970, when Colby and Garden City tied for the team title.  For the first time this year, there were two Outstanding Wrestler winners, one for the lower weights, and one for the upper weights. Winning the lower weight Ed Cramer Award was Michael Prieto of Garden City at 126 pounds, and the upper weight winner was Jaden Helms of Chaparral, who won in overtime in the 285-pound weight division in a battle of undefeateds.
