Roberta F. Cook, 97, died January 17, 2017 at Western Plains Medical Complex, Dodge City. She was born on March 24, 1919 at Benkelman, Nebraska the daughter of Harry H. and Josephine (Gallagher) Walker. 

Roberta grew up in Elkhart and was a graduate of Elkhart High School. She then attended Dodge City Junior College for two years. On September 7, 1941 she married James W. Cook at Dodge City. She was a member of Grace Community Church and a former member of First Baptist Church, both of Dodge City. She taught Sunday School and sang in the choir for many years. 

She was a former board member of the Good Samaritan Center, and had been active in the Christian Women’s Club and with the Alzheimer’s Support Group. Roberta worked at the Christian Book House in Dodge City. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.

Roberta is survived by four daughters, Denise Eccleston and husband Olen of Wichita, Cathy Fitzsimmons and husband Don of Dodge City, Paula Lewis and husband Paul of Dodge City and Barbara Tuxhorn and husband Rick of Inman; eight grandchildren and three great grandsons; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, James William Cook; son, Darrell Eugene Cook; grandson, Todd Fitzsimmons; two brothers, three sisters, and three sisters-in-law.

Funeral service will be held at Grace Community Church on Saturday January 21, 2017 at 10:00 AM with Pastor Kirk Larson presiding. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in Dodge City. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Home on Friday January 20, 2017 from Noon to 8:00 PM with the family receiving friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.
