Robert Ellis (Bob) Shackelford

Robert Ellis (Bob) Shackelford, 89, died December 14, 2016, at High Plains Retirement Village in Lakin, Kansas. 
He was born November 19, 1927, in Winfield, Kansas to James M. and Mabel (Finney) Shackelford. He graduated from Winfield High School in 1945 then entered the U.S. Navy, serving in WWII. 
On April 18, 1946, Bob married Jacqueline Taylor in Winfield. She died October 21, 2010. He attended Southwestern College in Winfield. Bob worked in the oilfield near Winfield until moving to Ellinwood in 1950, where he learned the trade of welding. In 1965 he went to work for Kerr McGee on an offshore drilling rig in Nigeria, Africa. He then was employed by Global Marine Drilling and lived in various places around the world, including Norway. Bob and Jackie moved to Pratt in 1975 after which time he continued to commute overseas until his retirement in 1985. During his retirement years Bob managed the Country Club Apartment complex in Pratt. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Natrona.  
Survivors include a daughter Nancy and husband Bob Briggeman, Garden City; eight grandchildren; Darcie Dixon (mother of four grandchildren) and 14 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son James (J.D.) and three older brothers, James Arthur, Raymond and Vernon.  
A memorial service will be held at St. Paul Lutheran church, rural Preston (Natrona), at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, December 22, with the Rev. Michael Schotte officiating. Internment will be at St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery. There will be no visitation.
