Robert (Bob) Holt
The second child of five, Robert (Bob) Holt was born to William and Rosa Hubmann Holt on July 30, 1936, in Dodge City. Bob became a child of God through the waters of Holy Baptism on Aug. 30, 1936 at Holy Cross Lutheran Church. He affirmed that faith into which he was baptized when he was confirmed on May 28, 1950, at Holy Cross. His confirmation verse being, ” Seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness” Matt. 6:33. Bob was called to his heavenly home on Tuesday, Aug 2, 2016, while at the Good Samaritan Home in Dodge City. Bob had just turned 80 on July 30.
Bob was a lifetime resident of Dodge City, graduating from Dodge City High School in 1954. Upon graduating Bob worked at various jobs until he entered the US Army. He served in Korea where he met his wife, Key Soon Ja. They were married Aug. 26, 1960, at the US Embassy in Seoul. After his discharge they returned to Dodge City where Bob worked for Elmer Kliesen OK Tire, Montgomery Ward Tire Dept, Firestone Tire, and 25 plus years in the maintenance department at Dodge City Community College.
Bob was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church where he served as elder for 35 years. He was an active member of the Lutheran Laymen’s League where he served locally and in the zone. For over 20 years Bob served as vice chairman of the Circuit 16 Forum Kansas District of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod. He was proud to have served his country and was a member of the Howard Gotschall Post #1714 VFW of Dodge City. Bob enjoyed visiting and seemed to know everyone. One of his joys was singing and everyone could hear him.
Those left to cherish his memories are one brother, William (Bill) Holt of Dodge City, two sisters, Janice Wurtz of Pleasanton, KS, and Marilyn Bader of St. Paul, NE; one niece, Melissa/Paul Helmuth, and four nephews, Nick Wurtz, Chris Wurtz, Tim Bader and Philip/Kim Bader. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Soon Il, and brothers-in-law Richard Wurtz and Ted Bader.
Funeral service will be held at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Dodge City on Friday August 5, 2016 at 10:00 AM with Rev. Randall Jahnke presiding. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in Dodge City with military honors by Howard Gotschall Post #1714 V.F.W and the KSARNG Military Honors. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Home of Dodge City on Thursday August 4, 2016 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM with the family present. In lieu of flowers, memorial are suggested to Holy Cross Lutheran Church or the Lutheran Hour in care of the funeral home.
