Road woes; Lady Buffs soccer falls to 0-2
Goddard, Kan (westernkansasnews.com)-For 70 minutes, Garden City played Goddard to an even draw. Unfortunately the first 10 was all that was needed to decide it.
The Lions scored in the eighth minute and again just 60 seconds later to beat the Lady Buffs 2-0.
“We started off very slow,” Coach Josue Negron said afterwards. “That ended up costing us.”
The major story line in this game was the girl in the goalie box-freshman Evonni Servantes replaced Ashlee Richman, who sat out Tuesday’s match after being handed a red card against Wichita Northwest on March 25.
“She (Cervantes) had some really good saves in the second half,” Negron said.
Goddard’s Sydney Harpenau scored the game’s first goal in the eighth minute. Then just a minute later, it Makenzie Klaassen taking a perfect pass from Kylie Logan and finding a crease past Servantes.
“Very proud of the girls,” Negron said. “They battled the whole game.”
Goddard out shot Garden City (0-2) 8-7. Kyle Lawrence had four saves for the Lions; Servantes made three stops for the Lady Buffs.
