Richard Joe Lawder

Richard Joe Lawder, age 73 died Monday May 8, 2017, at his home near Baker, Oklahoma. Joe was born February 4, 1944 at Liberal, the son of Albert Wilmer Lawder and Helen (Williams) Lawder. Joe graduated from Liberal High School in 1962 and attended college and Panhandle State University and Fort Hays State University.
On January 11, 1969, he married Peggy Balloun in Liberal, Ks. She survives.
In addition to farming, Joe was an avid collector of coins, Indian artifacts and many other items. He enjoyed metal detecting and was a Garrett Metal Detector dealer for years. Joe enjoyed hunting arrowheads and spent many an hour walking the fields of the Oklahoma Panhandle in search of the treasures. He was a member of numerous collecting and historical organizations and enjoyed swapping coins, tokens and tales with his buddies. Joe loved going to auctions and spend most weekends attending auctions or stock car races.
Joe’s pride and joy was his restored 1932 Ford 5 window Coupe, which he owned since his high school days. He spent many years restoring it piece by piece and loved driving it and showing it off at the local car shows. 
Joe is also survived by one son, Andrew Lawder of Turpin, Oklahoma; one daughter, Laura Jo Estes and husband Bryan of Turpin, Oklahoma and four beautiful granddaughters all of Turpin, Oklahoma – Maegan Lynn Lawder, Avery Jean Lawder, Sarah Elizabeth Estes and Emily Dawn Estes.
Graveside services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, May 11th and the Liberal Cemetery. Pastor Todd Bergman of the Baker Methodist Church will officiate. Visitation will be at Brenneman Funeral Home from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday May 10. The family will be present to great friends and relatives.
