Repeal of Tax Could Hit Counties Hard

Dodge City, KS (westernkansasnews.com) Fairness is a word that’s been used a lot in not only Washington, but Topeka. The legislature is considering a bill that will get rid of the mortgage registration fees, money that goes right back into county treasuries. If passed, Ford County Administrator Ed Elam says his county stands to lose a significant amount.

Depending on what loan you get, not everyone is covered by this tax. That’s something State Representative Bud Estes says the legislature wants to change.

No word on what will become of the bill.
