Registration Now Open for 2019 Sunflower State Games

TOPEKA, Kan. — The Sunflower State Games is pleased to announce that registration is now open for the 30th Anniversary of Kansas’ own Olympic style sports festival. The 2019 Sunflower State Games will take place July 12-28 in Topeka and will feature over 45 different events for all ages and skill levels. In honoring “30 Years of Athletic Excellence,” the Sunflower State Games is inviting all Kansans, young and old, to join the celebration by competing for the chance to bring home the gold. Highlighting the 2019 Games will be the return of the multi-sport hub at the Kansas Expocentre. On Saturday, July 13th, the Sunflower State Games will call the Kansas Expocentre home for participants in Wrestling, Boxing, Martial Arts, Jiu Jitsu, and Judo. Landon Arena and Expo Hall will be transformed into a multi-sport venue with all five competitions taking place simultaneously. A Fitness Expo will also be held at the location to promote healthy and active lifestyles to participants and spectators. The Cauldron Fest will once again kick-off the 2019 Sunflower State Games on Saturday, July 13th, at Lake Shawnee. The annual lighting of the cauldron will take place at 7:45 a.m., with a 5K/10K run set to follow at 8:00 a.m. The full lineup of sports in 2019 include Adventure Race, Archery, Badminton, Baseball, Basketball, BMX, Bocce Ball, Bowling, Boxing, Cornhole, Cricket, Cross Country, Darts, Disc Golf, Fishing Derby, Functional Fitness, Golf, Handball, Horseshoes, Indoor Soccer, Jiu Jitsu, Judo, Martial Arts, Miniature Golf, Mountain Biking, Orienteering, Pickleball, Powerlifting, Racquetball, Rowing, Sand Volleyball, Shooting, Slow-pitch Softball, Soccer, Swimming, Table Tennis, Tennis, Track/Field, Volleyball, Wrestling, and the 5K/10K Road Race.
“We are extremely excited to celebrate the 30th Anniversary of the Sunflower State Games in 2019” said Executive Director, Mitch Gross. “It has been an honor to provide the people of Kansas with a platform to showcase their athletic skills and talents for the past three decades. We look forward to using this event as a springboard to the next thirty years.”
In 2018, the event hosted 7,147 participants from 388 communities. Organizers are hoping to host over 7,000 athletes for the 11th consecutive year in 2019. The Sunflower State Games is a non-profit organization based in Topeka. The Games are held annually in July and its purpose is to promote physical fitness and an active lifestyle for all Kansans through participation in sports.
