Red Demons sweep Hutch in walk-off fashion

Dodge City, KS(westernkansasnews.com) The Dodge City High School baseball team halted a four game losing streak sweeping Hutchinson in a double header. The Red Demons won both games 5-4 on walk-off singles.

Game One

Hutchinson led 3-0 going into the bottom of the fifth, the Red Demons got on the board in the bottom half on a RBI double by Blaine Winans to make it 3-1. Dodge City(5-5, 0-2) inched closer in the sixth when Omar Don Juan was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded making it 3-2. The Salthawks would add a run in the seventh on an RBI single by Ryan Cherry making it 4-2. In the bottom half Wyatt Childress would move the Red Demons closer with an RBI sac-fly making it 4-3, Adrian Mendoza would follow with an RBI single to tie the game at 4. Alden Knedler and Noah Sowers would draw walks to load the bases, Omar Don Juan would follow with a walk-off RBI single to win the game 5-4.

Roman Rodriguez got the start for Dodge City pitching 5 innings and giving up 3 runs on 5 hits, but Adrian Mendoza(2-1) got the win pitching the last two innings and giving up 1 run on 2 hits. Don Juan led the way at the plate going 1-2 with 2 RBI.

Game Two

Hutch(1-5) would take an early 1-0 lead in the first inning after Landon Dimitt reached on an error by shortstop Kaden Riekenberg. Dodge City would respond in the bottom of the fourth win an RBI single by Don Juan and an RBI double by Cody Terrell to make it 2-1. The Red Demons would stretch the lead in the sixth inning on an RBI single by Noah Sowers and an error by third baseman Landon Dimitt made it 4-1. The Salthawks answered in the top of the seventh with an RBI single by Kory Holmberg and an error by shortstop Wyatt Childress tied the game at 4. In the bottom of the seventh with runners on first and second Noah Sowers laced a walk-off single down the first base line for another 5-4 win.

Noah Sowers got the start going 6.1 innings giving up 4 runs on 4 hits, Kaden Riekenberg got the win pitching the last 2/3 of the seventh. Sowers also went 2-4 with 2 RBI.

Dodge City is back in action Friday when they play at Garden City.
