Red Demons surge back for road win
HAYS — The Dodge City High School Red Demons overcame a 20-0 halftime deficit to shock the Hays Indians, 34-33 at Lewis Field Stadium.
The Red Demons ran 23 plays for a total of 60 yards and just one first down in the first half, but the second half was completely different. Dodge City scored all 34 points in the final 24 minutes, and accumulated 277 yards in the second half on 43 plays. The Red Demons came up big on 4th Down in the second half, as well, going 4-of-5.
Dodge City scored the go-ahead touchdown with 3:34 to go in the fourth quarter on a 65-yard touchdown pass from Beau Foster to John Johnson, who then pitched it back to Jaiel Johnson who ran the final 63 yards down the Hays sideline to the end zone.
The Red Demons are now 3-3 and 1-1 in WAC play. Dodge City will return home to take on Garden City in the annual Hatchet Game on Friday night.
