Red Demons Hold Watermelon Scrimmage
Dodge City, KS(westernkansasnews.com) Friday night Dodge City High School held their annual Watermelon Scrimmage.
The scrimmages started in the afternoon with the middle school football scrimmages. Followed by the varsity soccer scrimmage, then the United Way hamburger feed and the football scrimmage before the watermelon feed at the end of the scrimmage.
The football scrimmage was a split-squad, meaning there were starters on both teams. For the second scrimmage of the preseason the defense continued to be impressive for the Red Demons. Coach Foster called the defense the strength of the team after the scrimmage.
One of the highlight plays on offense was a 65 yard touchdown run for junior RB Jaiel Johnson.
The Red Demons start the season next Friday against Wichita West at Wichita Northwest High School. This is the third straight season the Red Demons have played Wichita West, splitting the last two games, winning the game last season. West brings back a big group of starters from last year including senior running back Kesean Deshazer, who ran for 1,019 yards and 11 touchdowns last year.
The game for Wichita West is set for a 7 p.m. kickoff with the pregame coverage beginning at 6:30 p.m. on Z 98.
