Red Demons fall in OT, eliminated by South
Wichita, KS(westernkansasnews.com) Dodge City lost to South in overtime Wednesday night 79-76. The loss ends the Red Demons season. The Red Demons trailed 54-44 with 7 minutes to play before battling back to force overtime 70-70.
South(12-9) shot 34-62 from the field for 55 percent, while the Red Demons were 24-59 for 41 percent. Dodge shot just 1-6 in overtime. The Red Demons were 10-33 from three point range and 18-24 at the foul line. South won the rebounding battle 42-32, including 13 offensive rebounds. Dodge City forced South into 24 turnovers that led to 31 points.
In his final game at Dodge City Hunter Heath led the way with 20 points. Adrian Mendoza hit 5 three’s for 15 points and Noah Sowers had 14 points 11 assists and 8 rebounds. Remy Lemovou led South with 17 points and 6 rebounds and Elijah Punnett had 16 points and 6 assists.
Dodge City finishes the season with a record of 10-11 in Head Coach Tony Starnes first year. Starnes credited the seniors for buying into a new system in their senior season and said this team was the best group of kids he’s ever coached.
