On the rebound; Buffs soccer roars back; Dodge falls
Wichita, Kan (westernkansasnews.com)-24 hours earlier, Garden City had suffered through another one of those offensive funks-a 4-0 loss to Hays. On Tuesday, they bounced back like proven veterans.
Megan Martinez scored three goals before anyone could blink, and the Buffaloes roared to a 5-0 victory over Wichita West in the opening round of the Wichita North Cup.
“We were moving the ball really well,” Martinez said. “I felt that we had control over pretty much the entire game.”
Martinez broke a scoreless tie in the 13th minute with the game’s first goal. Evelyn Rodriguez made it 2-0 in the 34th minute before Martinez closed the first-half with her second score in the 37th minute.
Martinez completed the hat trick with her third goal in the 64th minute on a beautiful setup from Maria Rodriguez. One minute later-(Maria) Rodriguez found the net off a penalty kick-completing the rout.
Next up: Garden City vs. Liberal-Thursday, May 8-5 p.m.
