Re-sentencing Phase Delayed For De Anda
Garden City, KS (westernkansasnews.com) The judge has granted a defense request for a continuance in the re-sentencing hearing of murderer Joaquin De Anda until after the new year begins. The 22 year old man pleaded guilty to the 2008 murder of 16 year old Julia Quintana. De Anda’s sentence was originally handed down by a judge and not a jury. The Kansas Supreme Court deemed that unconstitutional and ordered a new jury to make a determination on whether to keep De Anda’s life sentence or give him a new sentence of 25 years to life.
