Rainfall Delays Planting, Improves Pastures

(westernkansasnews.com) The National Agricultural Statistics Service reported Monday that the recent rainfall in Kansas has caused a delay in planting, but is improving pasture quality.

The report states that 84 percent of the winter wheat crop has headed and 8 percent is turning color. 27 percent of the crop is viewed as poor or very poor. 29 percent is in fair shape, while 38 percent is considered in good shape and 6 percent is viewed as excellent.

Corn planting is at 60 percent with 34 percent now emerged. So far 16 percent of soybeans and just 2 percent of sorghum has been planted.

Currently just 3 percent of pastures are in poor condition.
