Plains Man Killed in Meade County Accident
Meade, KS(westernkansasnews.com) A one vehicle accident in Meade County claimed the life of Alton Willimon, 68, of Plains early July 30.
The accident occurred at U54/U160 Junction about .75 mile East of Meade.
At 2:26 a.m. Vehicle 1 was westbound on U54 at a high rate of speed. Vehicle 1 failed to negotiate a right hand curve on U54, crossed center line and drove off into the south ditch. Vehicle 1 crossed U160, vaulting off into the south ditch, then vaulted a fence line. Vehicle 1 then nosed in, flipped end over end, rolled 1 time, ejecting the driver and coming to rest south of U54, facing southeast. The vehicle then burned completely.
Willimon was first taken to Meade District Hospital then flown to the burn unity at St. Francis Hospital in Wichita, where he was pronounced dead at 9:41 a.m.
