Philip Earl Travis
Philip Earl Travis, 84, died March 29, 2016 at Halsey Hall at Ft. Dodge. He was born on November 22, 1931 at Eskridge, the son of Reuben and Ruth (Bryan) Travis.
He graduated from Eskridge High School in 1949. Phil was a veteran of the Korean War serving in the U.S. Navy for four years on the USS Brush. He married Eldana J. Paul, October 20, 1956 in Eskridge. Phil was a lineman for KPL in Topeka and also worked for the State of Kansas Highway Department. He later became Postmaster for the USPS from 1965 through 1981 in Eskridge, Scott City and Satanta.
Phil is survived by his wife Eldana of the home; a son Bruce Travis and wife Marion , Waynesville, Missouri; two daughters, Linda Steele and husband Keith, Ulysses and Ruth Bartlett and husband Kent, Fowler; eight grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Robert Travis and a sister Marjorie Mossman.
Funeral service will be held at Swaim Funeral Home on Friday, April 1, 2016 at 9:30 A.M. with Revs. Kip Ryherd and Vernon Bogart presiding. Burial will follow at Kansas Veterans’ Cemetery in Ft. Dodge with military graveside rites by Howard Gotschall Post #1714, V.F.W., Dodge City and Navy Funeral Honors. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Home, Dodge City on Thursday, March 31, 2016 from Noon to 8:00 P.M. . Memorials are suggested to Hospice of The Prairie or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital both in care of the funeral home.
