Philip Ackley Harris, 88, died Sunday, December 27, 2015 at Manor of the Plains, Dodge City. 

He was born December 6, 1927 at his family home in Dodge City, the son of Floyd and Rose (Ackley) Harris. 

He was a member of the First Christian Church in Dodge City. Phil grew up during the dust bowl days when a movie cost only 10 cents. He went to school in Dodge City until his junior year in high school when his family moved to Kinsley to run a chicken farm, he graduated from the Kinsley high school in 1945. He enjoyed watching boxing, riding his Harley Davidson when he was younger, fishing, spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. 

He served in the United States Navy. 

On June 20, 1947 at the First Christian Church he married Opal Massey who was the cute blonde he had rode bikes and played marbles with growing up. She survives. 

Other survivors include: 4 sons, Mike Harris and wife Kathie, Garden City, Kansas, Steve Harris and wife Rosa, Tulsa, Oklahoma, Dan Harris and wife Margo, Dodge City, Kansas, Tim Harris and wife Virginia, Emporia, Kansas; one brother Dave Harris and wife Roma, Dodge City, Kansas; 12 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Dick Harris and grandson, Phil Harris. 

Funeral service will be 2:00 pm Wednesday, December 30, 2015 at Ziegler Funeral Chapel, Dodge City, with Richard Crockett officiating. Burial will follow in Greencrest Memorial Gardens, Dodge City. Visitation will be Tuesday from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm at Ziegler Funeral Chapel. 

In Lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to the Manor of the Plains, First Christian Church or Hospice of the Prairie all in care of Ziegler Funeral Chapel, 1901 N. 14th Ave., Dodge City, Kansas 67801.
