Perfection in the circle; Befort tosses no-no in Buffs sweep of Ulysses
Garden City, KS (westernkansasnews.com)-Through two outings this spring, Garden City hurler Dusti Befort has been unhittable; literally.
The senior added to her already impressive stat line, striking out 12 and tossing a perfect game as the Buffaloes smoked Ulysses with a pair of 10-0 victories Tuesday afternoon at Tangeman Sports Complex.
“Obviously it feels great,” Befort said afterwards. “Especially when you have really good defense behind you.”
It didn’t hurt to have an offense obliterate Tiger pitching to the tune of 18 hits. Haley Saldana provided the power, belting a two-run blast in the third inning of the opener. Garden City (4-0) put the game away by scoring five more in the fifth.
“Dusti pitched very well,” Coach Trina Moquett said. “And she had plenty of help.”
In the finale, Abbie Dart, who was sensational in their season opener last week, was just as impressive Tuesday. She allowed just three hits while striking out nine in a complete-game gem.
The offense got off to a quick start, plating four runs in the first. In the third, it was Befort leading off the frame with a towering solo shot to left that left even her dad Lyle Befort, who coaches the summer legion team, with a big smile on his face. She knocked in three of the 10 runs while Shai Cartmill and Aymee Seijas recorded multi-hit games.
