Peg Thayer Phlieger, 77, died Saturday, January 24, 2015 at Kearny County Hospital in Lakin. She was born March 9, 1937 at Kansas City, Missouri to parents Raymond & Myrtle (Von Pertz) Degan.  She married to Jerry E. Thayer on October 20, 1937 at Blackwell, Oklahoma. He died on May 29, 1983. She married Gilbert Phlieger on May 24, 1986 at Garden City

She was a member of St Anthony Catholic Church of Lakin and  Kearny County Golden Agers.

Peg graduated from a Catholic High School and attended the University of Kansas. She and her husband lived in Atlantic, Iowa before moving to Liberal in 1961 where her husband was the Manager of Brown’s Shoe Store. In 1977 they moved to Garden City and opened the Booterie Shoe Store which she ran until 1999. Peg was very involved in the Garden City business community as a member and volunteer for the Chamber Of Commerce and Downtown Vision. She was a cancer survivor and was very active in cancer causes. She enjoyed traveling and had second homes in Harlingen, Texas and Warsaw, Missouri. She had lived in Lakin for the last several years. She was a big sports fan especially supporting her children and grandchildren by serving as a Junior Golf Mother Marker and a supporter of the Southwest Hitters Baseball team and cheering on the Kansas City Chiefs and KU Jayhawks. She was preceded in death by her Parents, First Husband & 2 Sons Jeffrey Thayer in 1981 and David Thayer in 1983.
