Patricia Snow Traster
Patricia Snow Traster passed away suddenly on November 11, 2016, at her home in Ulysses, KS.
She was born in Baker, MT on June 14, 1931, grew up at Huron, SD, and graduated with honors from Huron College in 1953. She married Madison “Matt” Traster on January 24, 1954. The couple lived in Dodge City and Garden City, KS before moving to Ulysses in 1957.
Pat served on the school board and later taught in the Ulysses schools for 28 years.
She was a committed follower of Jesus Christ. She served on numerous United Methodist Church committees, United Methodist Women, and was the longtime director of the Wesley Singers, the high-school church choir.
She was active in numerous local organizations and clubs. She was an avid sports fan and loved to play games. She was fiercely competitive whether playing bridge, gin rummy, Scrabble, or tic-tac-toe.
She was a remarkable person always on the lookout for innovating ways to educate children, mentor adults, and serve her church and community. She will be remembered for her wisdom, kind heart, generous spirit, infectious laugh, and a positive, can-do attitude.
Survivors include: her husband, Madison; one son, David Traster of Wichita; two daughters, Julia Traster Rowe and husband Tony of Dickinson, ND, Janet Long and husband Mike of Ulysses; three grandchildren Joshua Thomason of Topeka, KS, Nicholas Long and wife Shasta of Manhattan, KS and Melissa Pickett and husband Michael of Aurora, OH, four great grandchildren; brothers-in-law Bob Bushong and Larry Venables, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pat is preceded in death by her parents Eugene and Olive (Taylor) Snow, two brothers and seven sisters.
Funeral service will be held Tuesday, November 15, 2016, at 2:00 p.m. at First United Methodist Church, Ulysses, KS with Reverend Todd Guinn officiating. Burial will follow at the Ulysses Cemetery, Ulysses, KS. Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Monday, 14, 2016 at Garnand Funeral Home, Ulysses, KS. Memorial contributions may be given to the United Methodist Women or the UM Wednesday Fellowship Dinner Fund in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 405 W. Grant Ave, Ulysses, KS 67880.
