Olney, England Reclaims Title in Pancake Day Race
Liberal, KS (westernkansasnews.com) The runner for Olney, England set a record during the 67th International Pancake Day race taking the championship away from Liberal who won the year before. Olney’s Lianne Fisher ran the 415 yard course in 55.2 seconds beating Liberal’s Summer Parsons who ran a 62.6.
The traditional race is always run on Fat Tuesday the day before Ash Wednesday and has participants wear aprons and flip a pancake into the skillet at both the beginning and end of the race. The celebration which begins the weekend before the events includes similar dashes with area youth.
