Hays, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–Two old Mid State Activities Association foes will meet up for their lone match up of the season tonight, as Scott City travels to Hays to take on the Thomas Moore Prep-Marian Monarchs. For Scott City, it will be their third game this week, with one more to go, and for TMP-Marian, this is their first game since January 31, when they swept Hoisington. Their February 4 game with Ellinwood was postponed to Monday, due to the poor weather conditions, and this past Tuesday’s game at Larned was moved to February 20, because of a death of a Larned High School student.

Both the Lady Beavers and Lady Monarchs are in search of another win. Scott City has lost six straight, and enter tonight’s game with a 2-13 record, after their 66-33 setback at Goodland on Tuesday night. The Lady Beavers had a good first half, despite trailing 40-25, but a slow second half doomed them in once again, netting only eight points. TMP-Marian comes into tonight with a 4-9 record, and have not played in two weeks. Their last game saw them surprise Hoisington on the road, with a 50-45 win. This is a young Lady Monarch team with only one senior, and are led in scoring by freshman Megan Koenigsman, averaging 13.5 points a game.

In game two of the night, a pair of teams with recent traditional success meet up. Scott City will look to snap out of their funk tonight, as they saw a 13-game win streak snapped Tuesday night in a 46-42 loss at Goodland. It was also their first-ever GWAC loss in 37 league games. The Beavers also enter tonight’s game with a 13-2 record, and are playing their third game of four this week. TMP-Marian has won four out of their last five games, including a win over the Hoisington Cardinals two weeks ago 49-31. The Monarchs are 7-6 on the year, which is the first time they’ve been above .500 all season. TMP’s leading scorer is junior Kameron Schmidt, who averages 12.4 points per game.

Tonight’s games will be played at Hays High School. The girls game will start at 6:15, with the boys to follow. Pregame coverage on Mix 94 begins at 5:45 pm.
