Nyla S. Collins, 72 died Saturday, October 3, 2015 at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, Kansas. She was born June 26, 1943 in Plainview, Texas.
Nyla grew up as a child in the Plainview, Texas area. As a teenager, she moved with her family to Greeley, Colorado. On November 8, 1959 she married Charles “Chuck” Collins, Sr. in Eaton, Colorado. They later moved to Guymon, Oklahoma in 1968. They later lived in Johnson, Kansas and Syracuse, Kansas before moving to Garden City in 1982. Nyla has lived in Garden City since. Nylas worked for many years as a truck dispatcher for Palmer Manufacturing/Worthington Industries. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Garden City and a former member of Epsilon Sigma Alpha Sorority. She enjoyed quilting, sewing, crocheting, embroidery, reading, gardening, and bowling.
Survivors include two sons Charles Collins, Jr. and wife Donna of Juneau, Alaska and Bryan Collins of Garden City, Kansas; a daughter Terri Matthews and husband Sammy of Garden City; 8 grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband Chuck wo died on March 13, 2006.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, October 9, 2015 at the First Baptist Church in Garden City. A private family interment will take place at a later date. There will be no calling hours. The family requests memorials given to the Nyla S. Collins Memorial Fund in care of Garnand Funeral Home of Garden City.
