NTSB Releases Preliminary Details on Findings at Scene of Derailment

Cimarron, KS (westernkansasnews.com) In their final press briefing on the train derailment in Cimarron, Earl Weener a member of the National Transportation Safety Board gave an update on the latest developments in the investigation. While a probable cause will not be determined for about a year there was something discover near the accident scene.

 

The fresh tire tracks came from a feed truck licensed to Cimarron Feeders. Weener says the company has fully cooperated with the investigation. Video evidence shows the track shifted 12-14 inches.

The railcars will be reconstructed at a location a few miles away. NTSB officials will remain on scene for a week and then will continue the rest of their investigation in Washington.

For those who rely on Amtrak the company has done all they can to resume operations along the line. Spokesperson Marc Magliari.

Amtrak reiterates they are cooperating fully with the investigation and want to thank all the first responders and others that were so quick to react when called upon.
