Now That the Scrimmage is Over, For Dodge City It’s Game Week

scrimmage pick

Dodge City, KS (westernkansasnews.com) After two weeks of practice, Dodge City High School football fans were able to get their final look at what the Red Demons have this year during the annual watermelon scrimmage Friday night a mere week before the season opener at Wichita West.

The first team offense was able to stay out there an extended period and looked good moving the ball. Senior Caden Walters tossed three touchdown passes including an 80 yarder to 6-5 tight end Noah Williams and 85 yard pass to senior wide receiver Dayton McGroarty. The only blemish for Walters was throwing an early interception to Michael Reardon early in the scrimmage.

Offensively McGroarty feels the team is more polished this year.

Defensively the Red Demons held their ground both with their first and second units.  Williams is more comfortable at defensive end by not having as many reads with this year’s defensive concepts.

In evaluating his team after the scrimmage, Coach Dave Foster believes both sides can have success even while competing against each other.

Foster is pleased that now the focus turns to their week one opponent Wichita West.

Both teams are hungry for a win in the opener.  Dodge City finished 4-5 last season, Wichita West was 2-8.  You can hear the contest this Friday night beginning with the pre-game at 6:30 on your new radio home of the Red Demons, Z98.
