Norton runs away with 3-2-1A Regional; 12 area wrestlers qualify for state

Norton, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–In what has traditionally been the toughest regional in Class 3-2-1A, the Norton Bluejays qualified 10 wrestlers for the State Tournament in Hays, en route to a dominating win of the regional in Norton on Friday and Saturday. Scott City qualified six wrestlers to state, including James Jurgens at 145, who is a four-time qualifier for the Beavers. The other five Beavers are first-time state qualifiers. Cimarron got two to state, while Greeley County, Lakin, Sublette and Wichita County are sending one to Hays.

The KWCA Regional Coach of the year was Brock Hutchinson of Smith Center, and the KWCA Regional Wrestler was Caleb Austin of Greeley County, who is a five-time state qualifier. Austin qualified in eighth grade through his junior year in Kentucky. The Class 3-2-1A State Wrestling Tournament will take place at Gross Coliseum in Hays February 27-28.
