Northwest Fourth Quarter Run Sparks Win Over Dodge Girls at Substate
Wichita, KS (westernkansasnews.com) Wichita Northwest used a 6-0 run to begin the game and 8-0 run in the fourth quarter to separate themselves from Dodge City and win their first round substate game.
Northwest (9-12) asserted themselves in the second half by breaking the Demon pressure. Still both teams had 22 turnovers in the game.The Grizzlies hit 17-36 shots just shy of 50 percent led by Dejanae Arnold’s 16 points on 8-10 shooting and added seven rebounds.

Tia Bradshaw performed well in her final game scoring 19 points and pulling down five rebounds and coming up with four steals. Freshman Chidera Okoro came through with an 11 point six rebound game.
The Demons were limited to three of eleven shooting from outside. Norhwest did not have much success from outside the arc at 2 of 7, but dominated inside at 15 of 23.
Ashley Nelson hit for two of her eight points on a midrange jumper with 3 1/2 to go in the third making it 26-25 Northwest.
Early in the fourth quarter Dodge trailed 33-30, but that is when Northwest utilized an 8-0 run to gain control of the game. Arnold had six of the eight points during the stretch and all of the points from inside the paint.

Northwest will go on to play two time defending state champion Wichita South in Saturday’s substate final. Dodge City ends their season 6-15.
