Norman F. Simshauser

Norman F. Simshauser, 89, died Wednesday, May 20, 2015 at St Catherine Hospital in Garden City. He was born December 28, 1925 at Calhan, Colorado to parents William & Alma Faye (Carlile) Simshauser. He married Ethel L. Kleeman on November 25, 1946 at Lakin.

Norman moved with his family to Kearny County when he was one year old. He attended grade school north of Deerfield and attended Lakin High School. He left school to serve in the United States Navy during World War II. He was assigned as a gunner on the USS Biloxi in the South Pacific. He later finished his high school degree and graduated with his Granddaughters in 2004. After his discharge Norman returned to Kearny County and worked in the Deerfield Grocery Store, ran the Deerfield Appliance Store, drove a propane truck, worked at Henderson Body Shop in Lakin and worked as a carpenter building homes before he was able to become a farmer-stockman in Kearny County. He was very active in his community as a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church where he was the Building Committee and Properties Chairman, member of the Lakin VFW, Kearny County Historical Society, Lakin Watershed District, President of the Veterans Memorial Building Board and past member of the Lakin City Council. He was able to take one of the Veterans Honor Flights to Washington, D.C. He was preceded in death by his Parents, Brother- William Everett & 5 Grandchildren Andria Rice, Jason Rice, Jacob Simshauser, Garrett Simshauser & Scotty Chaloupek.
