NJCAA All-Region VI basketball selections announced

The Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference announced the All-Region VI basketball selections on Thursday afternoon. Dodge City’s Sydney Thurwalker was named to the Honorable Mention team, while Garden City did not have a player on the women’s team. Tahlik Chavez led the Garden City men this winter and found himself on the Honorable Mention team, while no Dodge City men were chosen.

BALDWIN, Kan. — Brittany Reeves, Makayla Vannett,  and Jessica Martino repeated in 2019-20 as women’s NJCAA All-Region VI basketball selections released today.

Reeves, a 6-5 sophomore for Independence, was voted first team Division I All-Region VI for the second year.  Reeves had earlier been recognized as the All-KJCCC East Player of the Year.  Vannett, a Hutchinson Blue Dragon 5-6 sophomore, was selected to the Division I second team. Martino, a 5-10 sophomore for Labette, was voted to the Division II second team.

Region VI Division I selected a first team, second team, and third team for a total of fifteen student athletes honored. Five freshmen made the teams.

Division II selected a first team and a second team with ten student athletes recognized. Kamryn Estell of Kansas City KS was the sole freshman recognized in Division II.

BALDWIN, Kan. — Meikkel Murray, KJCCC Player of the Year in the East Division, and Demarcus Sharp, KJCCC Player of the Year in the West Division, headline the 2019-20 NJCAA All-Region VI men’s basketball team for Division I.

KJCCC Division II Player of the Year Jaquaylon Mays and Division II Freshman of the Year Marquise Milton headline the 2019-20 All-Region VI team in Division II.

Murray, is a 6-6 sophomore for Coffeyville, led the Red Ravens to the Region VI championship, while Sharp is a 6-3 sophomore for the 27-5 Colby Trojans. Dalen Ridgnal of Cowley was the only freshman on the All-Region VI first team.

Mays, a 6-2 sophomore for Johnson County, and Milton, a 5-10 freshman for Highland, join Jalen Davis, Kansas City KS, Rashon Johnson, Highland, and Lukas Milner, Johnson County, on the DII first team.
