Nguyen Earns Gold At State FCCLA

Nguyen State FCCLA

SCHS Junior Catherine Nguyen represented Scott City well at the 2025 FCCLA State Leadership Conference on April 8thth. Nguyen competed in a Students Taking Action with Recognition (STAR) Event in the Hospitality, Tourism, And Recreation Category and received a Gold Rating.

This event requires participants to demonstrate their knowledge of the hospitality, tourism and recreation industries and ability to translate their knowledge into a hypothetical or real business. Participants must prepare a portfolio, an oral presentation and complete a case study.

In January, Nguyen competed and won top honors at the District level, which qualified her to compete at the state level.

Kristi Roberts, the Scott Community High School FCCLA Advisor stated, “I am so proud of Catherine for rocking her FCCLA STAR Event, exploring a potential career path and bringing home the gold at State! A true example of passion and purpose in action.  FCCLA STAR events are for students taking action and recognition, and Catherine shined bright competing with her Hospitality and Tourism Project.”

Nguyen’s project was titled “Hoa Bien” and she created a fictional luxury resort that was inspired by French and Vietnamese culture. It was her goal to educate visitors about different cultures.

Nguyen is the daughter of Dien and Chastity Nguyen. She is also involved in National Honor Society, Student Council, Book Club, Kindness Project, Scholars Bowl, Softball and Tennis.
