Scott City, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–After another successful 2014-15 seasons in football and basketball, the Scott City Beaver boys basketball and football teams have been gearing up for another year of competition. For both programs, there will be quite a few new faces to fill in to positions that saw the football team play for a state championship, and the basketball team win its fourth state crown in the last five years.

Last week and for a portion of this week, players for the upcoming season participated in the summer’s football game to gear up for the fall season. The Beavers return one of the top backfields in the region, with Cooper Griffith and Wyatt Kropp. After that just two offensive lineman and five starters on defense return. While there are new faces in key positions for Scott City, improvement has been shown by the newcomers.

Two-a-day practices begin Monday, August 17, and the first game will be at Clearwater on Friday, September 4.

As for the basketball team, they gained some valuable experience throughout the summer, playing on some weekends and participating in the summer league in Garden City. With only one starter returning and three players off the bench returning, there will be some growing pains early on, but the group had shown positive signs at times according to Coach O’Neil.
