Ness County Sheriff pleads guilty, resigns

WICHITA, KAN. — Ness County Sheriff, Bryan Whipple plead guilty to one count of knowingly selling a gun to a person who was prohibited under federal law from possessing a firearm according to U.S. Attorney Stephen McAllister.

Whipple, 46, agreed to resign from the Ness County Sheriff Department after the guilty plea. Whipple admitted arranging to sell a .45 caliber pistol and ammunition to a man that he knew was a convicted felon. Whipple also agreed to surrender his law enforcement certification from the Kansas Commission on Peace Officers’ Standards and Training.

Whipple’s sentencing is set for Jan. 17, 2019 in Wichita. It is recommended that he be sentenced to probation.
