Names of officers involved in shooting released
Garden City, KS(westernkansasnews.com) The names of the officers involved in the October 5th shooting that killed 29 year old Cristino Martin Umana-Garcia have been released. The Garden City Police Dept. and Finney county sheriff’s released the names of the two officers in seperate releases Monday.
Master Patrol Officer Roger Montez of the GCPD and Patrol Corp. Eric Rojas of the sheriff’s office, were the officers involved. Montez has been employed with the GCPD since 2008, and Rojas has been employed with the sheriff’s office since 2010.
When officers arrived on scene that day Umana-Garcia allegedly had a knife held to his own throat before retreating to his car. Then after contact efforts were made by officers Umana-Garcia allegedly charged at them with the knife and that’s when officers shot and killed him.
The Kansas Bureau of Investigation is still investigating the shooting.
