Trooper Involve in Second Accident Responding to Another Call; One Dies

Spearville, KS (westernkansasnews.com) The Kansas Highway Patrol has confirmed a state trooper ran into two cars earlier today killing one person while trying to avert a car that had pulled out in front while in the middle of responding to another accident. The two vehicles were pulled over after seeing the troopers emergency lights were turned on.

The first accident was just one mile away just east of Spearville when the second wreck occurred at County Road 130 and Highway 50 in Ford County.  Trooper Michael Racy says two people were injured, one in each accident. 

The sheriff’s office is on scene to investigate in determining what led to the accidents.  Highway 50 from Kinsley to Dodge City is expected to be closed for most of the day while investigators piece together what happened.

The Kansas Highway Patrol has confirmed a state trooper ran into a car head on shortly after 7 Tuesday morning killing one person while trying to avert a Freightliner semi that had pulled out in front while in the middle of responding to another accident. The two vehicles were pulled over after seeing the troopers emergency lights were turned on.  

The accidents occurred at County Road 130 and Highway 50 in Ford County.  KHP identified the fatality victim as 59 year old Lucinda Lampe of Offerle.  Trooper Dillion Keller of Dodge City was taken to Western Plains Medical Complex for his injuries.  

Highway 50 from Kinsley to Dodge City reopened around 7pm Tuesday night after the preliminary investigation was completed.
