Mildred L. (Millie) Force

Mildred L. (Millie) Force, former resident of Pershing Manor in Garden City died Friday, January 3, 2014 at the Mary Herron’s Adult Care Home in Tucson, Arizona. She was born March 30, 1917 in Collinsville, Illinois the daughter of Celby L. & Bertha Pearl (Campbell) Whitlock. 

Millie married Howard L. Force on August 18, 1936 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. They lived in California most of their married life. Howard died on July 8, 1978. A few months later Millie moved back to Garden City where she lived for 16 years. She later moved to California then on to Tucson, Arizona where she lived with her daughter. Millie is a member of St. Mary Catholic Church of Garden City, the Daughters of Isabella, Circle 781, and the Finney County Senior Center. She did volunteer work at the St. Catherine Hospital Gift Shop and the Information Desk. She also volunteered at the Emmaus House. Millie’s hobbies were crocheting, needle work and reading. She also enjoyed cooking and baking for her family and friends. She also helped others when she was able. 

Survivors include two sons Raymond L. Force and wife Ann of Hiram, Georgia and Gary L. Force and wife Marlene of Tucson, Arizona; a daughter Beverly J. Force of Tucson, Arizona; an adopted daughter Nair Maloney and husband Tom of Tucson, Arizona; a step daughter-in-law Helen Force of Wichita, Kansas; four grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; and fifteen step-great-grandchildren. Mildred is preceded in death by her husband Howard; a step-son Robert E. Force, Sr.; three brothers Zee Whitlock, Russell Whitlock, and Gerald Whitlock; and a sister Dorothy Soft.

Visitation: Noon to 8:00 p.m. on Saturday and from Noon to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday , at Garnand Funeral Home in Garden City. 

Funeral Service: 10:00 a.m. on Monday, January 13, 2014 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Garden City with Father Charles Seiwert as Celebrant.

Interment: Valley View Cemetery in Garden City. 

A rosary will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 12, 2014 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Garden City. 

The family requests memorials to the Donor’s Choice in care of Garnand Funeral Home.
